Interview with Jesse Richman
Kitebeach on Maui has been my home. I have learned so much there and spent so much time there, it is truly amazing and I love on here on Maui.
You are one of the Kitesurfers who is very young, when did you decide to go for competition? And will you ever stop?
Contest riding is definitely a very specific type and style of riding. I prefer free riding but in some comps it can be really fun and a cool challenge. I started doing a lot of contest in like 07 and 08 and then went for the whole tour for 08 and 09. I am not sure how much longer I will compete but I can assure you that I will stop competing sometime.
This last year a ton of things have changed in the World Tours, seeing the ISAF in kitesurfing is really cool. I Believe that I am going to ride mostly on the PKRA and some other select events. Mainly Because if the IKA and ISAF, It would be a lot easier for everyone to have only one tour and one ranking system. So I am hoping that in the near future it gets a lot simpler for everyone and we push the sport going to the next level!
Since you have also been very successful in Racing, will you follow this trend in the future? Or will you keep on doing freestyle?
I really enjoy that kitesurfing has so many aspect to it. I love surfing and I love kiting in the waves, freestyle can be super fun to tech out, boosting huge is awesome and sometimes racing is really fun. I have no idea where the sport i going I only know what I want to do here and now… I am just as curious as you to know what I am going to be doing….Just have to wait and see!!!!
No worries man! Thank you!!!
